Camoflauge Birthday Cake

I made this camo cake for an 18th birthday. I was pleased how it came out, particularly when my hunter husband said, "Wow, that looks pretty cool."

Class with Bronwyn Weber!

This past Sunday, I took a class with one of my "cake idols" Bronwyn Weber. She has participated in and won several Food Network Cake Challenges, and she is as nice as she is talented. Well, after 11 hours of hard work, we all produced a 3D Santa Claus. It was very interesting to see all the different personalities in the Santas. Definetely a long day, but very worth it.

Sandy's Spooky Halloween Cake

I have a very dear friend at work whose birthday is three days before Halloween. I always make her a "spooky" cake, because she loves Halloween. This one was particularly fun to make, and I think she really liked it. I, of course, picked off all the candy corn and ate them.

Leaves are Falling

I have been really wanting to try some fall leaves, so I used Mary Beth's school fair cake walk as the perfect opportunity. Next time I think I will do the leaves a little deeper color, but I was pleased with the overall look.

Candy Corn!!!

Candy corn is my (and now my daughter's) absolute favorite candy. I know it's nothing but sugar, but I love it. Every year when Halloween rolls around, I find my self with a huge bag of it, even though I'm always on a diet. I volunteered to make cakes for Mary Beth's school fair cake walk, and I thought what more fitting cake than a giant candy corn!

Life Size Guitar

I made this cake for another daughter of the same lady I made the dirt bike groom's cake. Of course this one was a little more complicated. I really was pleased with the way it turned out. I think next time I'll find a different way to do the strings, though.

My new venture-cookies!

These were made to go with the Construction Birthday cake. They are super easy and super yummy. I think I have a new obsession!!!

Birthday "Under Construction"

I made this cake for a friend from high school's little boy. He was turning three and very into trucks and construction equipment. It was fun to do, and my first time doing a person out of gumpaste. I even got mom involved, she made the rocks!

Wedding Shower Cake for an Old Friend

This is a wedding shower cake for an old friend of mine. She lived down the street from me in elementary school, and we carpooled every day. We reconnected on Facebook...what would we do without the Internet these days? It was really tough to do white icing over chocolate cake, but they were very pleased and I liked the way it turned out.

Hudson's Jungle Cake

These cakes were for my friend Christen's little boy's 1st birthday. It's been fun b/c I've done her wedding cakes, her baby shower cake, and now these. He loved the smash cake and everyone seemed to enjoy the big cake. It was really fun to make, too.

"Fleur de Tigre"

This was a carrot cake I made for my boss's birthday. Tried a new recipe...it was to die for. I hand painted the "fleur de tigre" onto fondant. It was my first time painting, and I was pretty pleased with the outcome.

Cake for "Gay-A" Meeting

This cake needs some explaining. A lady I work with and her husband celebrated their three year "sobriety" anniversary this past weekend. She lost both of her sons tragically, so it was a major accomplishment. Her husband contacted me to make a cake for their meeting and he wanted something funny. To top it off, most of the members in their meeting are gay, hence the rainbow. I had a lot of fun doing it, and he loved it.

Finished this Blue's Clues cake at midnight last night. It was a little more time consuming than I anticipated, as I hand cut each little character out of fondant. I tried this new "upside down" icing technique that was supposed to give you really crisp edges, however I think I used the wrong type paper, b/c when I went to pull it off, it took the whole top of the cake off. Lovely! Oh well...I re-iced and went on. Hope he likes it!

This is a cake I made for a lady at work's mom who was celebrating her 75th birthday. I got some good cutters for roses and had a lot of fun making these. I think she was pleased.

Here is my final project for my gumpaste/fondant class. Bekah and I had a lot of fun. I was pleased with the results of my first flowers, and I think Ms. Martha was pleased with her cake. I can see this gumpaste flower thing quickly turning into an obsession.

Dirt Bike Groom's Cake

This was a "dirt bike" groom's cake for a lady at work's daughter's wedding. I had a lot of fun with this one. I created a new chocolate cake recipe for it, which I ate way too much of.

So, at 2:00 a.m. Saturday morning, I finally finished cakes and went to bed. However, I think it was well worth it. I loved the way they turned out and I am having so much fun experimenting with fondant. It's like being in Kindergarten all over again and getting to play play-doh! This one was for a couple's shower and the other one was for a little girl's "artist" party. Check it out under my children's birthday cakes.

Smash Cakes

After my wedding photographer moved to California, I was crushed. I thought no one would ever replace them. Luckily, I stumbled upon Anna-Karin Skillen. She is amazing. She did Mary Beth's one year pictures and everyone who has seen them has had a fit. Well, now I'm getting to return the favor. She uses "smash cakes" in her one-year old photo sessions, and I've started making them for her. It's so fun to see the babies get their first taste of cake. Check out my smash cakes album and check out http://www.annakarinsphotography.com/.

Blogging for the computer un-savvy

Ok, I'm going to try this for the first time. Apparently, you're not cool unless you have a blog. I really just want to set up a place to display my cakes for people to see. Hopefully I can figure it out.
